Free Bulky Waste Collections

Free Bulky Waste Collections

It is a crying shame when we see fly tipping all around us whether we live in rural or urban areas. It is even more astounding to see larger items dumped within our communities or in the countryside given that most councils offer free collection of many such items. Leicester City Council is no exception, and you can have:-

a free collection every two months, of up to five bulky items

a paid collection at any time, of up to five bulky items for £22 per collection

(But if you miss a booked collection or do not cancel in time, it will still count as a collection. You will not get a refund.)

The Council collects:

furniture such as wardrobes, tables and chairs

mattresses and bed frames

washing machines and other large appliances

carpets and underlay

securely tied extra bags of household waste

Items to be collected should be left in an open location at the front of the property. Collections start from 7am, all items for collection must be presented by then. Please make sure to cover mattresses, sofas and similar items to prevent them becoming wet. Wet items that are too heavy to lift safely will not be collected.

Elderly or disabled people who cannot move their waste outside or arrange for help, can seek help and the Council may be able to offer an assisted bulky waste collection. Contact them on 0116 454 1002 or email them at customer.services@leicester.gov.uk to discuss how they can help.

Items collected by the bulky waste service cannot be sorted for reuse. If items are in good condition, you could consider donating them instead through:

Leicestershire ReUse Network, which offers free collections of furniture, homeware and appliances

The Reuse Shop at Gypsum Close Recycling Centre, which accepts a wide range of items, including furniture, electrical items, toys, clothes and more

Or take items to a local charity shop.

There is no excuse for fly tipping!
