Eclipse Over Evington
Wednesday 12 August 2026, saw the big solar eclipse described as a very substantial partial eclipse.
For the UK it was partial, not total, but it is exceptionally deep. In Cornwall, around 96% of the Sun was be covered. This is the first eclipse since 1999.
It started about 6:18 pm peaking at about 7:16 pm and ended about 8:10 pm
At maximum, only a tiny sliver of the Sun remained visible.
Even with 96% covered, people were advised not look directly at the Sun without proper eclipse glasses/solar protection as ordinary sunglasses are not safe.
Interestingly, the eclipse was total in parts of Spain, Iceland and Greenland — so the UK is just outside the path of totality.
