Has The Village Chippy Had Its Chips!

Sad To say Bala has now closed the Village Fish Bar on a permanent basis.

She has been discontented for some time and revealed to the Echo back in 2025, during the Traders Survey, that she was aiming to close as she no longer liked Evington as a place to operate her business.

The good news is that Local Councillor Zuffar Haq has had indications that someone else is taking over the Village Fish Bar in the next couple of weeks, a dentist plans to move into Ginns and Gutterage and rumour has it that a print business plans to take over Profile Health and Beauty.

Let’s hope these all come to fruition and that Purple Bow Cakes, finds a new tenant soon.

Perhaps this sudden exit of several Main Street businesses suggests trading conditions are worsening, or business rates and rents are too high, or a combination of these factors.

One might ask if the closure of the Post Office, pharmacy and GP branch surgery were a factor in conditions worsening through reduced footfall.

Whatever, the City Council needs to take this seriously and consider ways to incentivise sustainable businesses to take up these premises on a long-term basis.
