Changes to bus services across the Leicester network from Sunday 16th April

As part of the Leicester Buses Enhanced Partnership, we’ve worked with other operators to review, rationalise and simplify services so there is better coordination along corridors to provide an enhanced experience for our customers.  This also includes changes to city centre departure stands, where services that serve a certain area of the city or county will be grouped together.  This will make it easier for customers to know where to head to, when catching a bus to a particular area.

From Sunday 16 April 2023, we’re making changes to our services across the Leicester network.

New Service 15 (replaces service 54 between City Centre & Goodwood)

There are no changes to the route and this service will continue to depart from stand CB on Charles Street.

Buses will operate every 7/8 minutes during the main day Monday – Friday, every 12 minutes on Saturday and every 15 minutes on Sunday.

Service 16  City Centre – General Hospital

Minor adjustments have been made to the timetable.

The route has been extended to serve Davenport Road and Gamel Road, Monday to Saturday following an agreement with Leicester City Council.

The route between Leicester General Hospital and Goodwood is being supported financially by the Leicester City Council.

Upon reaching the General Hospital, the route will be as follows;  right Coleman Road, left Goodwood Road, right Walshe Road, right Davenport Road, right Gamel Road, right Goodwood Road, left Ambassador Road, left Wicklow Drive, Green Lane Road, left Coleman Road, right General Hospital grounds to the main entrance, right Gwendolen Road, left bus layby, Broad Avenue, left St. St. Saviours Road then as normal into the city centre.

The extended route serves Coleman Road twice, so customers in the area do not have an extended journey to get into the City Centre.

Service 22  City Centre – Evington

This service will now be operated by Centrebus offering up to a 10 minute frequency Monday to Saturday and 30 minutes on Sunday.  Please visit Centrebus’s website for more information

First Bus tickets will not be valid for travel on service 22 after 16 April.  Flexi tickets will continue to be accepted.

Customers who currently have a First Bus ticket longer than a month and will no longer be able to use it after the 16 April are advised to contact our customer services team.

Services 38,38A  City Centre – Netherhall/Thurnby Lodge

As part of the Leicester Buses Partnership, we have worked with Arriva to provide a coordinated timetable for buses along Uppingham Road/Humberstone Road.

These services will now depart from stand HF in Haymarket Bus Station and will also stop at stand DB on Humberstone Gate East.

Together with Arriva’s service 37, Buses will operate every 5 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes on Sunday.  The new timetable can be viewed here

  1. Being abandoned by First Bus to Centrebus, Evington has been sidelined from the “The Big Bus Plan” While the bus stops in Evington announce the new Electric fleet, the reality is we will not be a part of it. The clapped out Centrebus fleet will not be electrified so while the rest of Leicester have quiet pollution free buses , Evington will not. This has been confirmed as a commercial decision by the The Leicestershire Bus Partnership by email.
