Right Hon. Keith Vaz MP and Cllr. Deepak Bajaj met with local residents and representatives from St. Paul’s Catholic School to receive a petition for a Pedestrian crossing on Spencefield Lane.

On Friday 12th June, 2015 local residents and representatives from St. Paul’s RC school met with Cllr. Deepak Bajaj (Evington ward) and Rt. Hon. Keith Vaz MP (Leicester East) to receive a petition for a Pedestrian crossing on Spencefield Lane.

The petition said: “We, the undersigned residents of Evington, Leicester request the Leicester City Council to install a Pedestrian crossing on Spencefield Lane opposite the St. Paul’s Catholic School and Krishna Avanti Primary School for the safety of the school children and vulnerable adults crossing the road every day, especially during the rush hour. That the Leicester City Council should implement these measures without delay.”

Two pupils from St. Paul’s School told Mr. Vaz that they walked to school every day and found it extremely difficult to cross the road because of the speed and volume of traffic. The group walked along the road and Mr. Vaz suggested a place for the Pedestrian crossing to go and said that he would raise the issue in Parliament on Tuesday. Cllr. Bajaj will present the petition to Leicester City Council.
