Judgemeadow Community College hosts Primary Maths Challenge for local pupils
Judgemeadow Community College recently welcomed 30 pupils from Linden Primary School and Whitehall Primary School to take part in the Primary Maths Challenge, a national competition designed to build confidence and encourage problem-solving skills in mathematics.
The challenge – aimed at Year 5 and Year 6 pupils – involved completing a 45-minute test paper that included puzzles, fractions, ratios, logical reasoning and geometry. The event provided an opportunity for pupils to apply their mathematical knowledge in a fun and engaging way.
Before the test, pupils took part in interactive workshops led by a representative from Ahead 4 Numbers, a local Leicestershire business that hosts educational maths sessions for children. This helped prepare the children for the challenge and included practice questions and useful tips, including a useful divisibility trick for large numbers. Several Judgemeadow Year 7 students also supported the younger pupils during these activities.
Following the preparation, pupils completed the official challenge paper with confidence. Afterwards, each participant received a certificate and a goodie bag in recognition of their efforts.
Commenting on the event, a pupil from Linden Primary said: “It was so much fun working with the older students and learning new ways to solve problems. We can’t wait to come back!”
Judgemeadow looks forward to hosting similar events in the future, building purposeful relationships with neighbouring primary schools and inspiring a love of learning among younger pupils.
