Evington Mela 2024
This event, arranged for 21st September but it was cancelled due to exceptionally bad storms and rain that flooded roads, even in Evington, which is an area that is quite high upcompared to central Leicester. 10,000 leaflets were printed. It was a big credit to the volunteer team, led by Raj Sharma, that it could be rearranged for the following week for Sunday 29th September.
By the afternoon, it was well attended with children, families and lots of people enjoying the food, shopping stalls and music. The special singer, Dr. Manu Kumar, was on tour in the UK from the Punjab, India. He was sponsored by Eurowood Entertainments.
As emphasised by our speakers, Baljit Singh and Cllr. Zuffar Haq, it was good to have this event to celebrate our diversity and community, who were mixing together promoting the very best of Evington as a model of community spirit.
The Mela was supported and organised by Best Community Charity and Friends of Evington, with a particular emphasis from individuals Raj Sharma, Baljit Singh and Helen Pettman.
