Evington is Blooming

Evington in Bloom is managed by Friends of Evington and is represented on the East Midlands in Bloom and through them to the Royal Horticultural Society.

It aims to enrich everyone’s lives through plants and make the area a greener and better place to live and work. People within their local communities are also encouraged to form independent groups and affiliate with Evington in Bloom by forming an ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood group’. Britain in Bloom/East Midlands in Bloom then provide yearly evaluations of the work of the groups, when a judge or judges visit in July or August each year. You can find more information about becoming an ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ group by searching this name on the web.

The scheme helps people in local communities improve and care for their environment through imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers, conservation and recycling projects and eliminate eyesores that blight our streets, such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.

Between 2016 and 2019, Evington in Bloom has supported between 6 to 8 registered ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ groups and many volunteers helping with the scheme.

If you are interested in getting involved contact Helen Pettman (evingtoninbloom.fofe@gmail.com). Penny Brown (penny.brown2@leicester.gov.uk) is the Leicester City Council Volunteer coordinator for Evington in Bloom and Leicester’s It’s Your Neighbourhood groups. In 2020, due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic sadly Britain in Bloom and associated organisations have cancelled the scheme.
