Church Road will be closed on 27th April 2026 for a period of four weeks between Shady Lane and the Main Street/Spencefield Lane Junction. This is to allow traffic calming and road safety improvements as previously covered in the Echo.
To some this will be disruptive to others a boon as the busy road section will be quiet. When the work is complete it is hoped it will bring positive benefits, slow down traffic and improve road safety.
It seems the problems at the Stoughton Lane, Shady Lane/Church Road junction have not been taken into account but slowing of the traffic might see some improvement at that dangerous junction as well.

A notice from the City Council provides different dates and a different reason for the closure. Attempts to clarify the issue after an 84 minutes spent on hold on the City Council switchboard failed to get a response.

THE LEICESTER (CHURCH ROAD, EVINGTON) (TEMPORARY)
TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Leicester City Council intends, not less than seven days from the
date of this Notice to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the
effect of which will be, for the following anticipated period of time
Prohibit the movement of all vehicles and prohibit waiting and loading on Church Road between its
junctions with Main Street and with Stoughton Lane from 7.00am on Monday 13th April 2026 until 6.00pm on
Sunday 10th May 2026.
Diversion routes. Shady Lane Gartree Road, Stoughton Drive, Evington Lane , Main Street
The Order will come into effect on the 13th April 2026 and will continue in force for up to 18 months, or until
the order is no longer deemed necessary, whichever is the earlier.
These restrictions are to facilitate gas mains replacement works taking place and to prevent the likelihood of
danger to the public. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Any vehicles parked in contravention of a restriction contained in this notice are at risk of being towed if the
vehicle is not removed following a PCN being issued.
