TRANSFORMING NEIGHBOURHOOD SERVICES IN THE EAST OF THE CITY – 2017

Transforming Neighbourhood Services is about changes to libraries, community services, youth centres, housing offices and local customer service points.  The council want to work with the local communities to make these services fit for the future.  Changes to government funding mean that the Council cannot run the services as they do now.  The Council want Neighbourhood Services to be effective, joined up, affordable and meet people’s needs.

Drop in session are to be held in January at the following times:

Knighton Library – Monday 23rd January 10.30am – 12noon

Evington Library – Tuesday 24th January 10.00am – 11.30am

St. Mattews Centre – Wednesday 25th January 2.00pm – 3.30pm

St. Barnabas Library – Thursday 26th January 11.00am – 12.30pm

Coleman neighbourhood Centre – Monday 30th January 12 noon – 2.00pm.

The public engagement exercise is running until 19th February 2017.  Questionnaires are available to complete online  at www. leicester.gov.uk/tns and at all council venues in the area.  The questionnaire gives a list of the Neighbourhood building, which are:

Wycliffe Ward:  1.  St. Matthews Centre,  2.  African Caribbean Centre.  3.  Highfields Library  4. St. Peters’ Neighbourhood Housing Office

Castle ward: 5. Knighton Library

North Evington ward:  6.  St. Barnabas Library  7.  Coleman Lodge Community Centre

Evington:  9.  Rowlatts Hill Neighbourhood Houseing Office  10. Coleman Neighbourhood Centre  11. Evington Library

Drop in sessions were held in January and advertised by the council and on the Evington Echo website and community noticeboards.

The City Council will work with local people on the following options:

Reducing the number of buildings owned by the council.

Merging services into shared buildings

Involving local people in running some services

Introducing more self-service and payment facilities.
