Tony Wilson Evington Leisure Centre

Tony Wilson died on 30th October 2024.  He was a full time swimming instructor at Evington Leisure Centre, who was much loved by the many children he taught.  He was based at Evington Leisure Centre but also taught at Aylestone Leisure Centre and in the clubs, particularly Neptune Swimming Club.

At Evington Leisure Centre foyer a table with a remembrance book had 70 entries by Friday evening and the book was only started that same morning!

Children wrote about how much they missed Tony, saying he was the best ever teacher and good with jokes and always smiling.  Their parents found him dedicated, friendly and kind.

He leaves decades of friendship, having work at Evington Leisure Centre for at least 30 years.

An entry in the Remembrance book picked at random says “Thank you for encouraging me to swim, you helped my swimming progress.  I am in the deep end now!”

He will be missed a lot.
