Join us for a celebration of South Asian Classical Dance
Saturday 16th November 2024
Curve Theatre, Leicester LE1 1SB
Now Autumn is here, everyone will have festivals they’re looking forward to. My mum and I are looking ahead to Navratri and Diwali, key dates in the Hindu calendar. We’ve also got a lot going on at work, at our dance academy Nupur Arts: we’re currently preparing for a showcase celebrating South Asian Classical Dance at Curve Theatre on Saturday 16th November, as part of a festival called Nartan (meaning ‘dance’ in Sanskrit). This is the tenth year of Nartan, with the main event being the showcase (called Ānartam, meaning ‘stage’ in Sanskrit) and accompanying it two workshop programmes with leading Indian dance practitioners, and free family activities at Curve.
The Ānartam showcase will celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of South Asian Classical Dance forms. We’ll see exceptional live performances in a range of styles: from Bharatanatyam to Kathak, Odissi to Kandyan dance. The dancers really are among the best at their respective styles, and they will come from across the UK for one night only. Their pieces will explore this year’s theme of Love and Devotion.
The show is supported by Curve Theatre, Akademi and Michaels Estates and funded by Arts Council England.
We hope you’ll join us for the show! Tickets cost £10-£18 (£15 for under-16s) and can be booked via the Curve Box Office (Telephone: 0116 242 3595, Email: tickets@curvetheatre.co.uk or book on the Website: https://www.curveonline/whats-on
If you are interested in the workshops, these will happen in the weeks leading up to the show. Check our website (https://www.nupurarts.org.uk) for dates and for the booking form.
Please join us for free family activities during the daytime on Saturday 16th November at Curve, in the afternoon before the show. Details are on the Curve website: https://www.curveonline.co.uk/whats-on
Come and experience the magic of Ānartam with us!
