About the Documentary Media Centre
https://doc.media-centre.org/about-2/
The Doc Media Centre (Documentary Media Centre) serves as a dynamic hub, providing communities, students, educators, and researchers with unparalleled access to documentary media content. Through the innovative utilisation of various mediums such as documentary films, photography, audio recordings, and new media, we co-curate exhibitions, events, and immersive experiences that foster meaningful connections between individuals and the world around them.
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalised communities and facilitating creative communication and engagement. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts, we strive to address social issues, promote inclusivity, and celebrate diverse perspectives.
Among the organisations and projects hosted at the Doc Media Centre are:
1. Saturday Heritage Fairs: Supporting individuals and community groups in preserving and showcasing their heritage through exhibitions, workshops, and events.
2. Parallel Lives Network: Facilitating dialogue and understanding between different communities across the majority world, through storytelling and multimedia projects.
3. Conflict Memory & Education: Exploring the intersection of conflict, memory, and education through documentary media initiatives aimed at promoting reconciliation and peacebuilding.
4. Museum of Community Media (Citizens’ Eye 2008-14): Preserving and celebrating the history of community media through exhibitions, archival work, and educational programs.
By harnessing the power of film, photography, audio, and new media, we create immersive experiences that provoke thought, inspire action, and promote understanding. Our focus on creative communication and engagement ensures that the voices of those often marginalised or overlooked are heard and valued.
Through curated exhibitions, interactive events, and educational programs, the Doc Media Centre serves as a catalyst for social change, empowering individuals and communities to share their stories, challenge stereotypes, and build connections across diverse backgrounds. Whether through exploring historical narratives, documenting contemporary issues, or envisioning a more inclusive future, we believe in the transformative power of documentary media to inspire empathy, spark dialogue, and drive positive change.
