Road Closure along Church Road, Evington cancelled twice

At 10.00am today, a message from the Gas board to the inquirer at St. Denys Church stated that the replacement of gas pipes along Church Road would not go ahead.

The authority stopping this work was Leicester City Council.

The first go ahead was 18th August and that was delayed until 21st August.  Now that is stopped.  I understand that the Gas people are disappointed because it throws out their timetable of planned work.  This August timing was best for them, with less traffic because of school holidays and longer daylight hours.  The earliest it could now be done is February 2026.

I spoke to a workman on Church Road who said “It will have to be done eventually because it is a national scheme to replace all old gas pipes.”
