A steering group has been set up to fight for the re-establishment of the services recently removed from Evington, including the GP branch surgery and pharmacy. These services were removed without proper consideration of the consequences and without proper due diligence of the alternatives.

We aim to have a rolling programme of actions and events during 2025 to persuade the Integrated Care Board (the NHS Local body) and the City Council, who could have intervened under powers bestowed on them by Parliament in January 2024, to rethink this.

We cannot do it without people power as we are simply a body of concerned citizens. WE NEED YOU to help us get the services you deserve back into the locality. There are GPs willing to re-establish our local service, but the integrated Care Board is standing in their way and the City Council stands idly by.

The Steering Group has agreed the following set of actions:

1. A Series of questions to Full Council
2. A Series of questions to Health Scrutiny Board
3. A Log of individual cases of ‘hardship’, service deficit
4. A Survey of traders
5. A Petition from traders
6. A Survey of constituents
7. A Petition from constituents
8. News briefings
9. Publications
10. A Series of protest actions at:
    1. ICB Meetings County Hall
    2. Leicester City Full Council
    3. Evington Village
11. Letters from constituents to:
    1. Leicester City Council (LCC)
    2. The Integrated Care Board (ICB)
    3. NHS England

Questions to Full Council and The Health Scrutiny Board will be drafted and agreed by the Steering Group.

We are looking for residents willing to pose these questions at Full Council and The Health Scrutiny Board, with Steering Group support and/or submit letters, drafted personally or by the Steering Group, to :

The City Council,

The Integrated Care Board, and

NHS England.

We are also interested in recording examples of any hardships faced by individuals due to the loss of the local surgery, pharmacy and Post Office.
