Public consultation on the proposed Wellcome Trust/Urban and Civic 4,000-home development on land south of Gartree Road is set to open on Monday 6th July.

Urban & Civic together with Homes England unveiled a bid earlier this year, to build on 931 acres (377 hectares) on farmland south of Gartree Road in Great Stretton.

Residents interested in fighting this development can go to Great Glen Village Hall between 17:30 and 20:30 BST on Wednesday 8th July and Parklands Leisure Centre, on Wigston Road, on Friday 10th July 2026 from 13:00 and 19:00 to make their views known.

Information will also be available to view online from Monday 5th July, with people able to register their views with developers until 30 July. Go to https://lsgrconsultation.co.uk/

Planning documents lodged by the firm with Harborough District Council indicate the homes will be built between 2028 and 2045 if the application is approved.

There is no doubt that without a plan to improve the road network that there will be an unacceptable increase in traffic at key times along all the existing ‘pinch points’ Gartree Road, Shady Lane, Church Road, Spencefield Lane, Goodwood Road, Evington Lane and Evington Road and going south towards the A6.

A meeting is being held at Evington Village Hall on Saturday 11th July at which Dr Henri Winand will speak to the people of Evington and the surrounding area to provide details of objections to the scheme and the follow up plans by Urban and Civic to build on a further 3369 acres of land around Evington, Stoughton and Great Glen.

After this meeting it will be clear what critical objections people can submit to Harborough District Council to the wanton destruction of the countryside, the erosion of our farmland and food security, the vandalisation of natural habitat and public footpaths, road congestion, flooding and global warming.
