Further Comments About The Closure Of A Surgery In Evington

Fred Bassett has sent a comment to the Evington Echo saying that 51% of 84 respondents replied to the NHS consultation about the surgery at 10, The Common, Evington LE5 6EA , which is less than 1% of the full practice consultation.

John McFadyen writes: “This consultation has arrived just as I am about to write to my MP about it. A key aspect of the NHS Constitution is action that can be taken when things go wrong and reach a stage where one still remains dissatisfied with the responses.

NHS England states that under the NHS constitution,

“You have the right to make a claim for judicial review if you think you have been directly affected by an unlawful act or decision of an NHS body or local authority.”

How can this be a right when most people cannot afford the very considerable costs of doing so? Ergo it is not a right and as such is probably an unlawful statement. This needs to be either withdrawn as a right or Judicial Review made available to the ordinary person in the street, albeit with safeguards to prevent a waste of public funds or time.

Perhaps the NHS Constitution should be enshrined in an Act Of Parliament that makes it unlawful not to deliver on it.”

Michael Barker writes “Surely no one really believes the hype that local health service provision will actually be improved if we allow the surgery to die away?”  He comments  on John McFadyen’s article on this website called “Closure of Evington Surgery an undemocratic catastrophe”.

Helen Pettman points out that despite this local campaign to keep the Surgery on The Common and pointing out to the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Care Board that the Pharmacy in Evington Village has also closed,  the management have failed to update their information about pharmacies on their website www.getintheknow.co.uk  The Pharmacy in the Village is still offered as Helen’s nearest pharmacy and hasn’t been updated since June 2024.
