Friends of Evington – Past and Present -7th May
This guided tour of Evington starts at St. Denys Church on Church Road. The walk begins along Church Road, past the War Memorial and into Evington Village itself. We will visit Evington Chapel and Evington Park, and the medieval moated site called Piggy’s Hollow before returning to St. Denys Church. There will be stories of the fascinating buildings you will see along the route. This walk takes place on 7th May, 2024 at 10am. Booking through the above link.
Your guide is a local historian, Chris Hossack, and Evington village is one of the most interesting villages within the City of Leicester. You will hear some good stories both old or new. Evington is now a diverse multicultural urban area, but it has an intriguing past. The route is all wheelchair accessible except for the visit to Piggy’s Hollow. If you prefer to miss this out, then you can wait in St. Denys Church until the party return.
Car parking is available across the road from the church, though please try to travel sustainably where possible.
New Walkers
If you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form in advance of the walk online or by phone. You will receive an email with a link to the online form in the days leading up to the event. You only need to do this once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite).
Dress for the weather
Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. We recommend the following:
- Comfortable sturdy footwear
- Bring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain
- On cooler days wear appropriate layers and a coat/jacket
- On hot days we recommend a hat and sunscreen
- Please bring a bottle of water with you.

We ask walkers to book in advance so we can keep our group sizes manageable.
