Evington Remembrance Ceremony

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 2025 Evington residents and Councillors gathered at the war memorial to recall fallen soldiers and to commemorate the contribution British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women made in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

Helen Pettman from Friends of Evington gave the initial address followed by the playing of The Last Post by bugler John Young and two minutes silence. Ward Councillor Zuffar Haq then gave a short speech followed by some very eloquent and moving recitals from five local young people. This was a sombre and touching memorial in which we were reminded of sacrifices made in past wars and the need to try to ensure that peace endures for all.
