East Midlands in Bloom judges visit Evington – July 2022

Here are some pictures taken by Rob Watson from Decentered Media showing the pictures he took during this Urban area competition which was assessed on 14th July 2022.

Rob saw some last minute tidying up before the judges met together in Helen’s garden to find out about the route and how important the Evington Echo (supported by Decentered Media) is to shining a light on the Evington in Bloom’s environmental and community activities.

After the briefing, the judges were taken on the tour by Chris Hossack.  They walked through Main Street, Evington, along the road called The Common, into Evington Park then to High Street, St. Denys Church and Piggy’s Hollow.  Rob was unable to follow them on to Sedgebrook Open space, so there will be more about this in a later blog.  The tour finished at Evington Village Hall with a a buffet lunch served with very beautiful china lent by Harkesh Farma.  The guest of honour at the buffet lunch was our MP, Claudia Webbe, who praised the work of volunteers.  Zuffar Haq also spoke about the problems people are facing and how a scheme to invite people to donate any surplus apples, etc. from their private gardens to food banks could work.

We won’t get the results of Evington in Bloom’s entry until September at the East Midlands in Bloom conference.  Then we get a full report, a grading and pointers for improvement in the future.
