Defrosting Car Windscreen Hacks!

It’s December and we are now officially in winter. Don’t you just hate frozen windscreens in winter? Standing in the freezing cold scraping away? Ok, you can buy de-icer spray, put a sheet across the screen the night before etcetera but there are a couple of hacks that do not cost a fortune, and the ingredients will be in most people’s kitchens.
The first is an onion, that’s right an onion. Apparently, an onion halved and rubbed across the windscreen the night prior to a freeze coats the glass in a natural oil and stops it frosting up. Secondly, white vinegar mixed in a 2:1 ratio with tap water in a spray bottle, can also help to stop your car from getting icy in the first place, and it only takes half a minute to work. Vinegar is a great de-icer as its freezing point is a lower than water, thus water doesn’t have a chance to settle and freeze on top of the vinegar solution.
If you forget the onion and white vinegar hacks, then use a water and white vinegar solution in three parts vinegar and one part water as a de-icer or alternatively use a saltwater solution. Mix a tablespoon of salt and water in a spray bottle, ensure the salt fully dissolves and spray the solution directly onto the frosted windscreen to lower the melting point of the ice. The salt and water solution should be used sparingly as it can damage bodywork paint and rubber seals over time.
When you travel on the roads in winter it seems some people are unaware that driving law, Rule 229 of The Highway Code, stipulates That you must:
Fully clear windscreens, mirrors, and number plates before driving.
Remove snow or ice that could fall onto the road while in motion.
Keep lights and indicators visible at all times.
Driving with limited visibility is an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1988, punishable by a £60 fine and 3 penalty points. If you are judged to be ‘using a vehicle in a dangerous condition’, you could be fined up to £2,500 and given 3 penalty points
