3rd March 1934 – 10th March 2024

On 10th April 2024 the family and friends of Ann Farthing gathered in St Denys church to give thanks for her life in a funeral service led by Revd. Mark Batchelor. Ann loved St Denys. This was where she married in 1957.

Work, Home and Holidays

Ann was born in Leicester on 3rd March 1934 and met her husband, Derek, at Standard & Pochin of Evington Valley Road where they both worked as technical illustrators.  They bought their Evington house off plan and lived there throughout their lives bringing up their family, Rachael, Vanessa with their Golden Labrador, Brandy.  Ann and Derek also helped look after grandson, Josh when he was young, as Rachael worked full-time.   They enjoyed many happy family holidays caravanning in Tenby, Wales.  They also took holidays exploring Europe, particularly the former Yugoslavia.

Challenging Times

Ann continued to work until the 1990s when the advent of computer aided design meant redundancy and early retirement.   Ann became a carer and looked after both her daughter Vanessa and her husband Derek when they became ill.   Sadly, in 2005 Vanessa died at the age of 42 and Derek died six months later.

A Zest for Life

Always beautifully dressed, Ann made the most of living alone in later life.  She enjoyed shopping trips with her niece, Sue, and was always ready for a good old natter with people passing by  as she worked in her front garden. Many remember her lovely smile. With Rachael, she visited gardening shows, including the Chelsea Flower Show – the highlight of which was meeting Monty Don. She was passionate about animals and wildlife. She also loved to dance, right into her eighties.

Family and friends are comforted by the memories of Ann, her beautiful smile and her gracious, kind and caring ways.  She lit up everyone’s day.
