Beware Creeping Development!
You may not be aware of, or if you are, not see the significance of an outline planning application currently being considered by Harborough District Council. However, the planning application for up to 900 homes, dwellings, a primary school, a local centre and open space on land south of Uppingham Road in Bushby, is only 1.2 kilometres from Evington. With such development on the doorstep, it is clear why Sir Peter Soulsby is ambitious to lead a city land grab into the neighbouring districts.
More interesting still is the decision by Farmcare Trading Ltd not to renew the lease on Houghton Lodge Farm, a successful mixed beef and dairy farm south of the Mulbery Homes development proposed in Bushby.
Jack Springthorpe the Herd Manger, who is now effectively being made redundant and is being effectively evicted from his family home, posted an emotional video message recently thanking people for their support as he has been relocating his livestock around the country.
The outline planning application is now open for public comment (News | Thurnby and Bushby Parish Council), with the consultation period closing on Wednesday 31st December 2025.
