New 6 week course for those living with long term health conditions

A new six week course will be coming to Scraptoft during February. The course has been specifically designed to encourage those living with long term health conditions such as Parkinson’s, osteoporosis, asthma etc to build a support group that will start with indoor, gentle movement and gradually introduce the use of special Nordic walking poles to aid walking and increase physical activity. A blend of four, 30 minute in-person and online sessions per week will help support and bring people together who might be finding it difficult to locate a suitable exercise group. The in-person sessions will take place at Scraptoft Hub, off Malsbury Avenue on Monday mornings 10:30 – 11 am and Wednesdays 1:30 – 2 pm. The course will start on Monday, 5th February, 2024. Some funding has been given by Active-Together as part of the We Are Undefeatable campaign but with the understanding hat the course can become self-funded and rolled out to others in the future. Therefore the course will be charged at £24 for the six weeks – equivalent to £4 per week/£1 per session to help cover costs. All equipment will be provided. The community group, Ministry of Nordic Walks, is very keen to talk with anyone who may be interested. Some discounts may be available to those on benefits or unpaid carers allowance.

The group can be contacted via email at ministryofnordicwalks@gmail.com.
